Another week equals more controversy for ex-Denver Broncos and current San Francisco 49ers linebacker Dre Greenlaw.
After a close tackle on the sideline on Seattle Seahawks quarterback Sam Darnold on Sunday, Greenlaw started getting in the face of Seahawks players on their own sideline. In the middle of the scrum, Greenlaw head-butted Seattle linebacker Ernest Jones IV, who was not wearing a helmet. While the action was not caught in real time by the on-field officials, the NFL review booth quickly saw the hit and immediately disqualified Greenlaw from the game.
The NFL passed its judgment on Greenlaw for the head-butt on Monday, suspending him for one game without pay, the league announced. You can see the hit that caused the suspension below.

In recent weeks and seasons, Greenlaw has found himself on the wrong end of NFL discipline. After the 49ers beat the Broncos in Santa Clara in Week 4, Greenlaw was fined nearly $12,000 for taunting coach Sean Payton and Denver's sideline.
During his lone season as a member of the Broncos in 2025, Greenlaw was also suspended for one game for rushing after and allegedly threatening an official following a miraculous 33-32 comeback over the New York Giants.
Greenlaw was released by Denver following the 2025 season, a move that saved the team about $8 million in salary cap space. Greenlaw eventually returned to the 49ers in the offseason on a one-year deal worth up to $7.5 million.
Greenlaw will be eligible to return to the 49ers on Thursday, Oct. 20, ahead of Week 7.
