While the Denver Broncos are dealing with a road test in Carolina this Sunday, one of their former quarterbacks will be looking to get his current team back on the winning track.
With Sam Darnold nursing a quad injury, the Seattle Seahawks are once again turning to Drew Lock. The Seahawks are coming off a tough loss to the Chicago Bears on Monday night that dropped them to 4-4 on the season.
Lock will be making his second start of the season for the Seahawks when they take on the Arizona Cardinals in Week 9. However, he played the majority of the season opener after Darnold left that game early with an injury.
Lock has played well this season, completing 73 percent of his passes for 422 yards with four touchdowns and no interceptions.
Drew Lock was once tabbed as the future in Denver
The Broncos
selected Lock with the No. 42 overall pick in the 2019 NFL draft and it looked like he would be the future of the team.
In 2019, a thumb injury suffered during the preseason forced him to miss some time while Joe Flacco was the team's starting quarterback. He was named the starter for the final five games of the season and there was plenty to be excited about. He then started 13 games in 2020 for a bad Broncos team.
In 2021, then-head coach Vic Fangio chose Teddy Bridgewater over Lock as the team's starting quarterback, stunting the growth of Lock in the process and effectively putting a halt to his career in Denver. The following offseason, he was sent to Seattle as part of the Russell Wilson trade.
Since then, Lock has also played for the New York Giants before coming back to Seattle and while he has served as a backup since leaving Denver, there is still a chance he could earn a shot to be a starter in the league again at some point. In addition, he won a Super Bowl ring as a backup with the Seahawks last year.
While his days in Denver have long since passed, Lock is a player that many fans within Broncos Country still root for.
