After being waived by the Denver Broncos on Sunday, rookie inside linebacker Red Murdock cleared waivers on Monday and will return on the team's practice squad, according to a report from KUSA-TV's Mike Klis.
Murdock (6-2, 232 pounds) was picked by the Broncos
in the seventh round of the 2026 NFL draft out of Buffalo. Denver used the final pick in the draft (No. 257) to select Murdock, giving him the title of "Mr. Irrelevant."Murdock impressed this summer, leading the Broncos' defense with 18 tackles in preseason. The 22-year-old linebacker set an FBS record with 17 forced fumbles in college, and he continued that trend with a forced fumble in the team's preseason finale.
“That’s a great feeling," Murdock said after the preseason finale. "One
thing that I tell a lot of people when it comes to the forced fumbles is, ‘It's going to take a million misses to finally get that one.’ I was kind of in a little slump, so it was good to break that."
Denver's going into the regular season with linebackers Alex Singleton, Justin Strnad, Karene Reid and Jordan Turner on the active roster. Murdock will now provide additional depth from the practice squad.
