Colorado football has a slim edge over Texas Tech in a series that has provided several memorable Big 12 games. The Buffaloes lead 6-5 overall and hold a 4-1 mark in Boulder, where the Red Raiders have won only once.
Saturday brings a much different setting as Texas Tech arrives at Folsom Field ranked No. 10 with a 4-0 record, while Colorado is 2-2 following consecutive road losses. The Red Raiders opened as 14.5-point favorites for the Oct. 3 matchup, which kicks off at 5:30 p.m. MDT on Fox.
The Buffaloes went to Lubbock in 2024 and beat Texas Tech, 41-27, erasing a halftime deficit behind big performances from Shedeur Sanders and Travis Hunter. The victory remains Colorado's most recent win in the series.
Folsom Field has favored Colorado
Texas Tech's only victory in Boulder
came in 2010, a 27-24 decision during Colorado's final season in the Big 12 before leaving for the Pac-12. Colorado had won the previous four home meetings, including a 30-6 result in 2006 that remains the Buffaloes' largest victory over the Red Raiders.
The series began in 1962 and returned to annual relevance during the programs' original Big 12 years. Colorado holds a 5-3 advantage in conference matchups, while Texas Tech owns a 4-2 edge in games played in Lubbock.
A tough new chapter
This year's game brings a ranked Texas Tech team into Boulder with an undefeated record and an offense that has scored at least 28 points in every game. The Red Raiders beat Sam Houston, 49-14, on Saturday and have already won a close conference game against Houston.
Colorado needs an answer after scoring only 20 points across losses at Northwestern and Baylor. The Buffaloes also must settle their quarterback situation following Isaac Wilson's second-half appearance in Waco.
Series history will not help the Buffaloes win on Saturday, but Colorado should have some confidence from its past success against Texas Tech at Folsom. The Buffaloes will need a serious upset to give this season a needed jolt.
