Colorado appeared on the AP Top 25 Poll for the first time since 2025, not as a ranked team but as a team that received a few votes. This follows a thrilling 14-13 win over Georgia Techin the season opener, in which they had a much-improved run defense and a formidable rushing attack.
Four Big 12 teams are ranked, the same as last week. Texas Tech remains the top-ranked team in the Big 12 but dropped from No. 12 to No. 13. BYU also dropped a spot despite a dominant win in their season opener. Utah and Houston moved up in the polls after their victories.
In addition to the Buffaloes, two other Big 12 teams received votes. Arizona received 33 votes after their victory over Northern Arizona, while ASU had two votes after defeating Morgan State 70-7.
Elsewhere in college football, Louisville and Virginia are in the top 25 after not being ranked going into the season. The Cardinals are the only team currently ranked with a loss after nearly defeating Ole Miss in their opener. The biggest jump among teams ranked in the initial poll is LSU, which moved from No. 11 to No. 8 after a 51-10 win over Clemson.
Michigan, which started the season ranked No. 16 in the country, is no longer ranked despite its controversial win against Western Michigan. Another notable drop is Oregon. After nearly getting beaten by Boise State, who received 86 votes in the poll, the Ducks dropped from No. 2 to No. 6. Texas A&M and Washington both dropped two spots.
Colorado hopes to continue its upward trend in the poll with a Week 2 matchup against a manageable Weber State team where the Buffs are heavily favored.
