The 1-0 Colorado Buffaloes are back at Folsom Field Saturday afternoon for their home opener against the Weber State Wildcats.
Colorado won its season opener, taking down the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets in thrilling come-from-behind fashion. Julian Lewis led an impressive go-ahead touchdown drive, and Boo Carter blocked a potential game-winning field goal to seal the win. CU's run defense and running game also showed up in a way we have rarely seen from a Deion Sanders-led Colorado squad.
Weber State, on the other hand, is coming off a tough 47-42 loss to in-state rival Southern Utah, where the Wildcats gave up a whopping 368 rushing yards, including 183 yards and three touchdowns to the Southern Utah starting running back. Colorado is a 30-plus-point
favorite, and if Colorado's running game and Weber State's leaky run defense remain, it could be a long day for the Wildcats.
With just a few days until kickoff, here are our Buffaloes Wire staff predictions.
Ariana's Prediction
Colorado's defense was significantly better in the season opener versus last season. Weber State has a talented receiver in Noah Kjar who leads the Big Sky in receiving yards (264) and receiving touchdowns (four). So, the Wildcats will probably give up a touchdown. However, the Buffaloes' run game will dominate, as it did against the Yellow Jackets, and lead Colorado to a blowout victory.
Score: Colorado 48, Weber State 7
Charlie's Prediction
I was thoroughly impressed with what I saw at the line of scrimmage from Colorado in Week 1. The defensive line had its moments, though I wanted more from the pass rush, and the offensive line was spectacular. Considering Weber State's struggles stopping the run, I would expect a heavy dose of the run from offensive coordinator Brennan Marion. I am always hesitant to pick a team to cover a 30-plus spread, but I can see the Buffs doing that this weekend.
