The story surrounding the NFL early this week was that Eagles quarterback Jalen Hurts was diagnosed with blood clots that spread from his calf to his lungs. Hurts is expected to miss the rest of the season, as he must take blood thinners and cannot play contact sports.
Colorado head coach Deion Sanders, who has dealt with serious blood clot issues throughout his coaching career, spoke Tuesday morning unprompted about everything Hurts is going through. Sanders expressed sympathy for Hurts and said he hopes the quarterback's situation won't threaten his football future.
"I know what he's dealing with," Sanders said. "I know what he's going through and I'm praying for him."
Sanders added that his first thought upon hearing about Hurts' condition was
whether he could continue his career. The Eagles said Monday that the quarterback is stable and expected to make a full recovery, with several statements indicating an early prognosis is positive.

In the nearly four years Sanders has been Colorado's coach, he has undergone multiple surgeries related to blood clots in his calf, including procedures that resulted in the amputation of two toes in 2021. He also nearly lost his leg following blood clot surgery during the 2025 season.
Since his bladder cancer diagnosis and subsequent recovery, Sanders has become more vocal about the need to support other people going through similar medical issues and how simply talking about it can help.
