After another dominant performance by Ohio State receiver Jeremiah Smith, the Buckeyes remain favorites to win the National Championship. However, after two top-10 teams lost in Week 6, some other odds have shifted.
Ironically, after losing to Georgia, Alabama's odds have slightly increased. Georgia's odds have also gotten better. Meanwhile, Texas's odds dropped after their Red River Rivalry loss, in which quarterback Arch Manning threw two interceptions, including a pick-six and an interception on the Longhorns' final drive that set up Oklahoma's game-winning field goal.
Notre Dame's odds also got better after their 51-point win over Stanford. Miami's odds also got slightly better even though they were on bye. Ole Miss has also reentered the top
eight national championship contenders after LSU lost to Kentucky in overtime for their second SEC loss of the year.
Here is where the title contenders stand courtesy of FanDuel after six weeks.
Ohio State (+360)
The Buckeyes had no problem with Maryland to reach 5-1, with their only loss coming against Texas. So far, no one has figured out how to stop Jeremiah Smith, who now has 916 receiving yards and 11 touchdowns, both second in the FBS. With how he is playing, it is hard to see how Ohio State could lose.
Notre Dame (+460)
There is something to be said for consistency, and the Fighting Irish are winning consistently, 6-0. However, they haven't yet played a true contender. Their top-10 matchup against BYU next week should show whether Notre Dame can win it all.
Georgia (+490)
In one of the week's best games, Georgia defeated Alabama 20-17 on the road for the first time since 2007. Both teams showed they are contenders, but the Bulldogs proved they are slightly better.
Miami (+700)
Miami certainly appears to be the only ACC team with a shot at the National Championship and, in all likelihood, the only team from the conference going to the playoffs. The Hurricanes have an explosive offense, although I have some reservations about Darian Mensah, who appeared to struggle against Clemson's defense in their last outing.
Alabama (+850)
Despite the loss, this is clearly a top team in the country. Especially with the 12-team format, one loss doesn't mean you are out of the playoffs, and even if Alabama can't make the SEC Championship game, they can still get in as an at-large team like last season.
Texas (+1000)
Arch Manning's two-interception game was alarming for Texas' playoff chances. The Longhorns should have won this game. Oklahoma won because of Manning's turnovers; they scored 10 points off those picks. Based on his performance, this does not seem like a team that can win it all.
Indiana (+1000)
Indiana had a close call against Nebraska, but escaped with a 20-17 win. The Hoosiers are a tempting bet given last season's win, but they're nowhere near the same team. Their quarterback isn't at Fernando Mendoza's level, and even though they are 6-0, they will not be in the championship.
Ole Miss (+2200)
The Rebels are a very long shot, especially after getting blasted by Florida. However, Ole Miss is an incredibly talented team with one of college football's best quarterbacks. With Trinidad Chambliss, Ole Miss cannot be counted out and seems highly likely to make the playoffs at this point in the season.
