Iowa has a lot of questions to answer when it returns to Kinnick Stadium this weekend.
The Hawkeyes dropped to 5-2 after a 13-10 road loss
to Minnesota on Saturday. It was a disappointing performance for an offense that looked like it had taken some major strides before the bye week. This loss showcased a lot of the faults in the offense. A poor running game and subpar quarterback play cost Iowa a winnable rivalry game.Kirk Ferentz and his team will now shift their attention to Wisconsin. The Badgers are riding high off a win over USC and playing some decent football at the moment.
Iowa released its Week 9 depth chart on Monday. Running back Kamari Moulton departed the Minnesota game with an injury. Moulton isn't on the depth chart this week,
and Ferentz revealed on Tuesday that the fourth-year back had suffered a season-ending injury.
"Injury-wise, Kamari, he's going to be done for the season. So, unfortunately, he's going to be done. We'll look forward to getting him back here, but he's got some rehab to go through," Ferentz said on Tuesday.
Iowa also listed its two quarterbacks, Hank Brown and Jeremy Hecklinski, with an "OR" distinction. But, Ferentz named Brown the starter on Tuesday.
"Quarterback-wise, I think we listed Brown, Hecklinski, and plan to start Brown. We'll see how the week goes, but right now plan to start him and play it by ear from there," Ferentz said.
Running back L.J. Phillips Jr. is also absent from this week's depth chart. Ferentz updated Phillips' status on Tuesday.
"We'll see how it goes. He got to work a little bit today. That'll probably be day-to-day, so we'll see what the week brings there," Ferentz said of Phillips.
It looks like Xavier Williams, Nathan McNeil, and Braeden Jackson could all see bigger workloads on Saturday.
