Just before Iowa football's 2026 season opener against Northern Illinois, the University of Iowa announced that it will honor broadcaster Gary Dolphin by naming the radio broadcast booth at Kinnick Stadium in his honor.
Dolphin has served as the radio play-by-play voice of Hawkeye football and men's basketball for 30 years. In a perfectly planned reveal, Iowa head football coach Kirk Ferentz got to break the news to the Hawkeyes' legendary play-by-play voice during Ferentz's weekly radio show.
"For three decades, Gary Dolphin has brought Hawkeye Athletics to life for millions of fans across Iowa and around the world. His voice has become part of the fabric of Iowa Athletics, capturing some of our most memorable moments while representing our university
with professionalism, integrity, and passion. Naming the radio broadcast booth in his honor is a fitting tribute to his extraordinary contributions and the lasting impact he has made on generations of Hawkeye fans," Iowa athletics director Beth Goetz said in a news release.

The naming of the Gary Dolphin Radio Broadcast Booth ensures that his legacy and contributions to Iowa Athletics will remain a permanent part of Kinnick Stadium and the Hawkeye experience for future generations.
Dolphin gets his first play-by-play call of the 2026 season as Iowa and Northern Illinois meet at Kinnick Stadium on Saturday, Sept. 5, at 3:15 p.m. CT, with the game broadcast on the Big Ten Network.
Dolphin was recently honored with a similar press box dedication at Dyersville's Field of Dreams ballpark.
