In his Tuesday press conference, head coach Kirk Ferentz ruled a pair of Hawkeyes out from Iowa's Cy-Hawk date against Iowa State on Saturday.
Safety Tyler Brown and running back LJ Phillips Jr. were ruled out.
"Injury-wise, Tyler Brown won't make it again this week. That was anticipated. Then LJ will not be able to make it either. Hopefully that won't last too long, but those are the basically two takeaways from the game," Ferentz said.
Per CBS, Phillips suffered a high ankle sprain during Iowa's 40-0 win over Northern Illinois. The 5-foot-8, 211-pound back transferred in from South Dakota, where he was a first-team All-American last year. Phillips led the FCS with 1,921 rushing yards on 294 attempts. The Wichita, Kan., native registered 19 rushing touchdowns
last season.
Brown joined the program from James Madison. A 5-foot-10, 201-pound defensive back, Brown tallied 80 tackles, six pass breakups, five tackles for loss, one sack and one interception.
Iowa listed Nathan McNeil and Xavier Williams as Kamari Moulton's co-backups at running back on its Week 2 depth chart. Starting in Brown's place is fellow transfer Anthony Hawkins, who joined Iowa from Villanova. Iowa's other two strong safeties on its Week 2 depth chart are Xavier Styles and Marcello Vitti.
Iowa's starting free safety is Zach Lutmer and its backup free safety is Ty Hudkins.
