After a 31-14 loss to Ohio State (4-1, 2-0 Big Ten) last Saturday, where does Iowa football (4-1, 1-1 Big Ten) rank in the CBS Sports 138 entering the Hawkeyes' Week 6 clash at Washington?
CBS didn't punish the Hawkeyes too much in its 138 rankings, as Iowa dropped six spots from No. 13 to No. 19. The modest decrease likely reflects CBS' view of Iowa as still a contender for a potential College Football Playoff spot, even after the loss to the high-flying Buckeyes.
Against the Buckeyes, Iowa needed to play a perfect game on both sides of the football, but they got off to a bad start. The Hawkeyes had to play catch-up, and eventually Ohio State and wide receiver Jeremiah Smith dictated the script. Smith registered two touchdowns on 11 receptions
for 206 yards.
If the Hawkeyes can defeat Washington (3-2, 0-2 Big Ten) on the road this Friday, Iowa will be 2-1 in what was viewed as the hardest three-game stretch of their regular-season schedule. Although much of the season remains after this weekend, the Hawkeyes could be well positioned to make a case for inclusion in the 2026 College Football Playoff.
The Hawkeyes and Huskies kick off Friday night at 8 p.m. CT at Husky Stadium in Seattle, Wash., with the game broadcast on Fox.
