No. 10 Iowa women's basketball (1-0) opened its 2026-27 campaign inside Carver-Hawkeye Arena with a 73-45 win over Towson (0-1) on Monday night.
Dani Carnegie led the way with 21 points on 7 for 15 shooting. Point guard Chit-Chat Wright scored 14 points and forward McKenna Woliczko added 10 points to round out Iowa's double-figure scorers.
Woliczko added a team-leading eight rebounds, three blocks, one assist, and one steal in 24 minutes in her collegiate debut.
With the Hawkeyes securing a victory in their season-opener, here's some of the best reactions from fans and media to Iowa's performance against Towson:
Lots of people overreacting to a season-opener. Iowa didn't shoot it well and didn't run their offense well. None of it was talent related
and almost all of it will be evident on film. The new offense is going to take some time to get rolling. They will be fine.

Man, comfortable win for Iowa WBB, but that was not a very fun game to watch. 😬 Good to see they can win so big when not playing their best, but so much work to do. Go, Hawks! 🔥🔥

Man I really like Dani Carnegie on Iowa. So many times I thought she was going to force something in a drive and play hero ball and she consistently kicked it out instead. Can’t wait to watch this team this season!

Idk if people realize how scary this starting 5 is. Dani Carnegie averaged 17.8 points, 5.2 rebounds & 3.2 assists per game & was first team all SEC at Georgia. McKenna Woliczko is an ELITE wing and 5 star recruit. Ava Heiden was an all America honorable mention in her first year… https://t.co/EuXRiWHR8h

McKenna Woliczko’s hustle and defensive versatility have been the story through the first five minutes. Deflections, effort plays, a three pointer and she just had an emphatic swat at the rim.
