The Iowa run game had struggled mightily entering Friday night's game at Washington. Iowa finally put together an elite performance against a power conference team in its 41-24 win over the Huskies. Fourth-year running back Kamari Moulton was a huge reason why.
The 5-foot-9 back rushed for a career-high 208 yards on Friday. He also added a pair of touchdowns to round out the best game of his Iowa career. Moulton accounted for a huge chunk of the Hawkeyes' 263 team rushing yards.
His efforts earned him a ton of praise and admiration from Pro Football Focus. Writer Gordon McGuinness put together his college football Week 6 Team of the Week on Sunday. He listed Moulton as his running back of the week and fourth-year Trevor Lauck as his left tackle
of the week. PFF also named Moulton as their Offensive Player of the Week.
Here's what PFF had to say about Moulton:
"Moulton was phenomenal in Iowa’s win over Washington, forcing an incredible 16 missed tackles on 26 carries," McGuinness said. "He rushed for 208 yards, averaging 5.3 yards after contact per carry, and earned a 90.3 overall PFF grade." - Pro Football Focus
The Fort Lauderdale, Fla., native showed off all the elite aspects of his game in this performance. His vision was excellent. He bounced off would-be tacklers with ease, as shown by the 16 missed tackles he forced. And when he got in the open field, he showed off a burst of speed that makes him so difficult to stop.
Iowa will need to ensure that this performance carries over into the back half of the season. If it does, they'll be in the mix for a coveted College Football Playoff spot.
