Iowa coasted to a 40-0 season-opening shutout victory over Northern Illinois on Saturday afternoon.
The Hawkeyes were impressive in all three phases, but Iowa suffered a trio of injuries along the way. Running back LJ Phillips Jr. exited with an injury in the first half and starting offensive linemen Cael Winter and Kade Pieper also missed the second half with injuries.
Iowa head football coach Kirk Ferentz updated the trio's status after the Hawkeyes had put the finishing touches on its victory over NIU.
"Yeah, I think we'll know more tomorrow. LJ probably not even tomorrow, the next couple of days. He had a little bit of a lower leg deal. The rest of the guys are just heat issues and they're fine. They're going to be good to go," Ferentz said.
That's great news on Winter and Pieper, who the Hawkeyes will need come Saturday against Iowa State.
Iowa's offensive line and running game got off to a roaring start. Fourth-year Hawkeye running back Kamari Moulton had touchdown runs of 50 and 37 yards. Moulton finished with a career-high 183 rushing yards on 11 carries.
Iowa hosts Iowa State this coming Saturday at 6:30 p.m. CT on NBC. The Hawkeyes are looking to snap a two-game losing streak to the Cyclones.
