Just days after being waived by the Los Angeles Sparks, former Iowa women's basketball guard Kate Martin has signed with the Chicago Sky on a developmental contract.
The 2026 WNBA campaign has been quite a journey for the 2024 No. 18 overall selection. Martin started the 2026 season with Golden State, but the Valkyries parted ways with Martin on May 7.
Shortly after, Martin signed a player development contract with the Sparks. Martin played well enough that Los Angeles signed her to a standard contract on June 6. But, Martin would ultimately be waived by the Sparks on Aug. 29.

Martin averaged 2.3 points and 1.1 rebounds
per game on 37.1% field goal shooting and 30.8% 3-point marksmanship across 17 games played for the Sparks. In her career, Martin has averaged 4.2 points and 2.0 rebounds per game on 32.4% field goal shooting and 32.0% 3-point shooting.
With Chicago (15-25) having only four games remaining on its 2026 regular-season slate, Martin could play her first as a member of the Sky on Sept. 17 against former Hawkeye Lucy Olsen and the Washington Mystics (24-16) at Wintrust Arena.
Unrivaled also recently announced that Martin had inked a multi-year deal with the league.
