Penn State has been receiving an overwhelming amount of recognition in recent weeks. Preseason award watch lists are being released rapidly, and they’ve included several Nittany Lions players.
The most recent watch list released was for the Earl Campbell Tyler Rose Award, which is given to the best offensive player in college football both on and off the field. Penn State has a handful of players who sound like they could qualify for the list, but the two that made it are running back James Peoples and wide receiver Chase Sowell.
Arguably the most important part of this watch list, and many of the others, is the fact that the players listed have mostly been transfers. This means that the Nittany Lions should receive a massive influx of talent
this season if these players put their best foot forward.
Peoples, a transfer from Ohio State, is reportedly competing for more of a complimentary role in the backfield, so his addition to the list is interesting. However, Sowell is shaping up to be one of the team’s top receivers, which leaves no question as to how he made the list.
Everyone knows Peoples has the talent to be a lead back, but we’ll have to see how coach Matt Campbell divvies up the carries. It seems like a good problem to have to need a detailed plan for how to spread the ball around because a team has an abundance of offensive talent.
