The Penn State Nittany Lions are 3-0 to start the Matt Campbell era in Happy Valley, and a major reason why has been the emergence of wide receiver Koby Howard. Unfortunately for Penn State, he is likely to miss an "extended period of time", Campbell told On3's Greg Pickle on Wednesday.
“Kobe, after kind of evaluating everything, he will be out,” Campbell said. “He’s going to be out for probably an extended period of time. It’s not season-ending, but it will be an extended period of time.”
Howard leads Penn State with 12 receptions for 344 yards and two touchdowns, he also has two carries for 24 yards and another touchdown. The sophomore had the best game of his career against Marshall, with six receptions for 161 yards and a touchdown. He had over
100 yards receiving in two of their three games this year.
He played in nine games last season and made four starts. The 5-foot-11, 203-pounder finished the year with seven receptions for 133 yards. He elected to stay over the offseason and quickly impressed the new coaching staff, emerging as Rocco Becht's top target.
Penn State is set to open Big Ten play on Saturday against the Wisconsin Badgers (2-1) at Beaver Stadium. The game is scheduled to start at 5 p.m. ET and will be on Peacock.
