Penn State and Temple will renew their in-state rivalry for the first time in a decade on Saturday afternoon in Week 2. The Nittany Lions visit Philadelphia for the first game in a home-and-home scheduling agreement (Temple will visit Penn State in 2027), and they will do so as a big favorite for the second straight week.
Both teams won their season openers a week ago with double-digit home victories. This is Penn State's first road game in Philadelphia since 2015, which did not go well at all for the visiting Nittany Lions. Things look a bit more optimistic this time around, according to the updated game day odds.

The sample sizes are too small to provide much feel for any developing trends, but Penn State and Temple each covered the spread in their respective season openers by a decent amount. Both teams were favored in Week 1 and beat the spread by multiple scores. Penn State was a 23.5-point favorite last week against Marshall and won by 45 points in a shutout. Temple covered a 14.5-point spread against Rhode Island and won the game by 24 points.

I came away far more impressed with how well prepared Penn State was in the season opener than I anticipated. I expect nothing less from the team for the first road trip of the season under Matt Campbell. Penn State has a clear advantage in talent across the roster compared to Temple. The Owls are a far cry from the caliber of a team that rocked Penn State the last time the Nittany Lions visited the Linc, but Temple will surely be fired up for this big home game.
The history suggests taking the under here and the Owls covering a somewhat decisive point spread, and I'm halfway on this one. I think Penn State's offense will string together a good number of scoring opportunities that help keep its distance from the Owls, and I'm not sure Temple has enough to crack this Penn State defense. But I think going the other way against the trends is the way to go this week.
