While Penn State was most likely busy trying to fix their problems on the field during their bye week, they are making some interesting moves off of it as well, specifically on the recruiting trail. Christopher "Roscoe" Hayes had committed to West Virginia in march, but the Nittany Lions believe they can convince him to come to Happy Valley as they made an offer this week.
Hayes is an interesting three star prospect typical of who Matt Campbell targeted in his time at Iowa State. Standing at 6-6 and 181 pounds, he is the perfect profile for any QB and most importantly, could be vital for the depth of the position going forward. Still, Hayes has proven to be popular in the Big 12 ranks, with offers from schools such as Cincinnati andKansas State. One
reasons why this move could be seen as underwhelming though, could be Hayes' rating. While it is important to replenish the position, it certainly won't appeal to Penn State fans who simply want better players.
This season has been one of disappointment at the position after No. 1 wideout Koby Howard went down with injury. Perhaps Penn State are simply doing their due diligence in terms of covering their bases. After last year's failures to recruit well, Matt Campbell will want to get off on the right foot in the Class of 2027. Hayes may not be the player that Penn State fans want, but it could be what allows them to continue finding players that fit the mold for their squad, especially as they try to build for the future.
