After another win to start the year, and with some other results around the nation on the college football field, Penn State has moved up another spot in this week's updated US LBM Coaches Poll. Penn State has been moved up to No. 15 in this week's US LBM Coaches Poll, which was released Sunday afternoon.
Texas took over the top spot in this week's poll while receiving 42 first-place votes following its thrilling fourth-quarter comeback against previous No. 1 Ohio State. As Texas moved up two spots to take over the No. 1 position, Ohio State fell from No. 1 down to No. 6. Georgia remains at No. 2 this week but Notre Dame moved up from No. 4 to No. 3 to jump ahead of the falling Buckeyes. Defending Big Ten and national champion Indiana moved up a spot from No. 5
to No. 4, and Miami moved up two spots to No. 5 to also capitalize on the Ohio State drop.
Penn State moved ahead of two other teams that lost and plummeted in the coaches' poll this week. Oregon dropped 12 spots down from No. 6 to No. 18 after its road loss at Oklahoma State. Oklahoma fell 11 spots from No. 10 down to No. 21 after losing to Michigan. Michigan moved up to No. 19 after nearly falling out of the top 25 last week.
Despite jumping two teams in the standings, Penn State only moved up one spot because they were also jumped in the voting this week. No. 14 Tennessee jumped up four spots this week according to the voters in the coaches poll.
Other Big Ten teams in this week's US LBM Coaches Poll include No. 11 USC, No. 20 Iowa, and No. 24 Washington.
Penn State overcame a bit of a sluggish start on offense to pull away on the road against Temple, 27-9. Penn State failed to score on each of its first three possessions of the game, all ending in Temple territory, but put together 27 straight points between the second and fourth quarters before the Owls put a late touchdown on the board to cut into the late deficit. Rocco Becht continued to lead the offense by distributing the football to a variety of receivers, and the defense was dominant all game long outside of a couple of big plays by Temple's offense.
Penn State will return home in Week 3 to host Buffalo. Kickoff is set for noon Eastern from Beaver Stadium, and the game will air on Big Ten Network.
