The college hockey season is about to hit its stride as Big Ten play opens for the Penn State Nittany Lions this weekend. The Nittany Lions (2-4-0) open conference play on the road against No. 18 Minnesota (2-3-1) with a weekend series beginning Friday evening in 3M Arena in Minneapolis, Minnesota.
Penn State is coming off a weekend sweep of Canisius last weekend, which gave Penn State its first wins of the season after a tough 0-4 start to the season. That included a pair of losses to ranked opponents UConn and Quinnipiac. Penn State won the first game of last weekend's home series by a score of 5-1 and then capped the weekend with an overtime victory. Penn State won 3 of 4 regular-season meetings last season and then topped the Gophers, 6-2, in the first round of the Big Ten tournament.
