Penn State’s season kicked off with a bang Saturday when the Nittany Lions stomped Marshall 45-0. Not only did coach Matt Campbell’s debut inspire confidence among fans — it also has potential recruits visualizing a future in State College.
Five-star cornerback Nasir Richardson was at Beaver Stadium for the opening day shutout, and he was highly impressed with Penn State’s performance. “The experience was great. It was fun going out there, watching a team I could see myself playing for. Watching the DBs felt like I could fit right in, it was looking good,” said Richardson, according to On3.
The Nittany Lions aren’t used to being in play for prospects this good, so Richardson’s comments are a breath of fresh air. He is the No. 1 cornerback in the nation
according to 247Sports’ composite ranking system, and he is rated just outside the top ten players regardless of position.
Richardson saw a masterpiece from defensive coordinator D’Anton Lynn that included an interception from safety Bryson Williams. The spirited Week 1 showing gave everyone a glimpse of how good the Penn State defense can be, and that ceiling will continue to raise if the program can add impact recruits.
Richardson will undoubtedly be the crown jewel of the 2028 class if he commits to the Nittany Lions. The five-star corner still has a full itinerary of visits left to make this season, but the Blue and White appear to be in great shape right now with his recruitment.
