Not only is Saquon Barkley a Penn State legend — he’s also one of the best running backs in recent NFL history. The New York Giants selected him with the second pick in the 2018 NFL Draft and he turned into an instant superstar, rushing for more than 1,300 yards in his rookie season and punching in 11 touchdowns on the ground.
Injuries and a shoddy offensive line largely stifled his production in the years that followed — that is until he joined the Philadelphia Eagles. Running behind one of the best blocking units in the league and being made the centerpiece of a loaded offense, Barkley reminded the world who he was in his first season in the City of Brotherly Love, picking up more than 2,000 yards rushing and adding 13 touchdowns.
He had somewhat
of a disappointing season in 2025, but that didn’t stop his peers from celebrating him. The league is currently unveiling a new player from the iconic NFL Top 100 list each day, and the former Nittany Lions star came in at No. 34.

It’s easy to look at this ranking as a failure for Barkley, who was named the best player in the sport by his peers last year, but it’s still a resounding success. Not many players could see a 800-plus-yard drop off from the previous season and still be rated as high as the former Offensive Player of the Year.
We know from his Penn State days that Barkley possesses the rare combination of speed and power, which should allow him to have a bounce back season in a new offense. If he gets anywhere close to his 2024 form, then he should shoot back up this list next year.
