Penn State's basketball roster is a mix of some experienced returners, but a lot of transfers and international risks. It is a huge gamble for a team not necessarily expected to contend in the Big Ten this season but also an experiment that could come together in a unique way. Today, we take a look at one of Penn State's integral transfer additions in former Davidson sharpshooter Roberts Blums.
Preseason Player Profile
- Hometown: Riga, Latvia
- Height: 6-4
- Weight: 190
- Class in 2026-27: Junior
Recruiting Rankings
Much like several other international players for the Nittany Lions, Blums did not receive a typical ranking while being recruited. however, after playing two seasons with Davidson, Blums was given a grade of 90.99 and was rated a 4 star transfer prospect.
Career Stats
In two seasons with Davidson, Blums announced himself as one of the A-10's best shooters. In his freshman
year, he only played 15 minutes per game, averaging 4.1 points and only shooting 30.5 percent from 3 point range. However, in his sophomre season, he saw a massive uptick in form where he saw his points per game total jump 8 points and 3 point shooting percentage jump 9 points to 40.7. Overall, he scored 532 points and totaled 160 rebounds in his Davidson career.
Projected role in 2026-27
Blums will look to slot into the starting shooting guard position for the Nittany Lions and join a deep rotation of elite perimeter threats for the team. However, the transition from being a bench player in the A-10 to a starter in a Power 4 conference will be tough for Blums. Still, combined with the shooting of Brant Byers at the small forward position and the electric downhill threats of point guards Jay Rodgers and Andy Gemao, Blums could still prove to effective as a secondary scorer in this offense.
Random fact
Blums hold the share of the record for most points scored in a game in the Latvian-Estonian Basketball League with 41.
