Penn State saw a slight bump in the national polls this week after winning its season opener against Marshall in Week 1. The Nittany Lions also saw a slight bump in the FBS re-rank from USA TODAY following Week 1's results around the nation.
Penn State moved up one spot in USA TODAY's 1-138 ranking of FBS programs from Paul Myerberg. Myerberg has Penn State currently ranked at No. 16 in his full FBS ranking of teams.
Penn State won its season opener against Marshall in impressive fashion, 45-0. The Nittany Lions saw a breakout performance from wide receiver Koby Howard and solid contributions from a number of transfer players from Iowa State including quarterback Rocco Becht and wide receivers Brett Eskildsen and Chase Sowell. The defense was
locked in from the start and never allowed the Marshall offense to utilize its dual-threat quarterback with much efficiency.
Penn State holds a similar ranking in this week's US LBM Coaches Poll. The Nittany Lions moved up one spot in this week's coaches poll. Penn State is also No. 16 in this week's AP Top 25 after moving up two spots. Penn State is also ranked No. 16 in this week's Super 16 poll from the FWAA and National Football Foundation. Penn State was not ranked in the preseason Super 16 poll.
Marshall fell five places in the ranking down to No. 119 following its loss at the hands of Penn State. Temple, whome Penn State visits in Week 2 in Philadelphia, is currently ranked No. 88. The Owls fell three places despite their season-opening victory over Rhode Island in Week 1.
