Penn State will play its third home game of the season this week when the Wisconsin Badgers come to town. The game marks the beginning of conference play for both schools, and Matt Campbell and his Iowa State transfers’ first look at a Big Ten rivalry.
Despite playing in the same conference for more than a century, the Nittany Lions have only played the Badgers 21 times, holding a slight 12-9 advantage in the series. The teams last met back in 2024 during Penn State’s run to the College Football Playoff, when it had a comfortable 28-13 victory.
The games between these squads are typically low-scoring affairs that are competitive. The Blue and White have won six games consecutively in the series, but they’ve all been within two scores, and they’ve only
cracked 30 points twice.
The last two games were played on the road, so this will be Wisconsin’s first time back at Beaver Stadium since 2018.
When these teams met back in 2024, the Nittany Lions came out victorious thanks to a great run game and a stellar defensive effort. Quarterback Drew Allar threw for just 148 yards and a touchdown, but thankfully the team rushed for 173 yards as a group.
The offense only produced 21 points, but the defense picked up the slack and took an interception back for a touchdown. They were ultimately able to pick up the win and extend their winning streak in the series to six games.
Wisconsin has had a bit of a hot start to the season as well, but the Nittany Lions should still be able to pick up the win. This game is a huge opportunity for Campbell to make a statement in the conference.
