This season was projected to be somewhat of a transition year for Penn State, but the expectations quickly ratcheted up after a 3-0 start. Now, the team is 3-4 after four straight losses in Big Ten play, and it is staring at the harsh reality of potentially missing out on a Bowl Game.
The dramatic fall has been documented on EPSN’s Football Power Index, with the Nittany Lions dropping further on the list each week. Things were no different after Saturday’s loss to Michigan, with the team now owning an 11.7 power score, a 0.8-point decrease from last week.
It goes without saying that Penn State essentially has no chance of winning the Big Ten or making the College Football Playoff. Only a Bowl Game is possible now, but that would take the blue
and white going 3-2 down the stretch of the season — a feat that’s hard to imagine after the product they’ve put on the field in recent weeks.
The outlook for the rest of the season is bleak for the Nittany Lions, but they are currently on a bye week with a chance to reset. They must return to play in two weeks with a sense of urgency and focus, or else their season might be over.
