One of the best rivalries in college football returns this weekend, as Penn State faces off against the Michigan Wolverines. The two teams have played each other nearly every year since the start of the century, but the series has been on a hiatus since the 2023 season.
They have played each other a total of 27 times since their first meeting in 1994, with Michigan holding a commanding 17-10 lead. Although the all-time record is lopsided, the Nittany Lions have held their own in the last 14 meetings. Each school has won seven games in that period, but the Wolverines are currently on a three-game winning streak.
The last meeting between these two storied rivals was a defensive slugfest, with neither team cracking 300 yards of total offense, and
neither quarterback reaching 100 passing yards. Penn State ultimately lost 24-15 while only putting one touchdown on the board.
But now these teams are completely different, with entirely new rosters and different coaches running the show. Both have fallen well short of preseason expectations and desperately need a win to regain some confidence and restore the excitement of their fanbases.
The Nittany Lions will try to end Michigan’s winning streak and make the series 17-11.
