Penn State will arguably play its toughest game of the season this Friday against Northwestern. The game didn’t seem overly difficult originally, but that all changed last weekend when the Wildcats nearly knocked off the Indiana Hoosiers.
One of the biggest contributors in the near upset was wide receiver Griffin Wilde, who is someone the Nittany Lions are all too familiar with. He had seven catches for 94 yards and a touchdown last season at Beaver Stadium, and there’s no doubt he’s looking to have a repeat performance.
He only had 56 yards in Week 4, but he reeled in two touchdowns to give the Hoosiers a scare. Wilde is a player who catapulted himself into the upper echelon of Big Ten receivers, and he hasn’t slowed down a bit this year.
Penn
State has been handsy down the field this season, being flagged for a handful of pass interference violations, so the secondary will need to keep their composure. Wilde can make violent cuts to get himself open on intermediate routes, while also having the ability to stretch the defense vertically.
The Nittany Lions will face their biggest receiving threat of the year so far as they try to prove that lost week’s loss was just a mirage. Silencing Wilde and banking a winnable game are imperative with USC next up on the schedule after Northwestern.
