LSU football avenged a lopsided loss from 2025 in Week 4 of the 2026 season. The Tigers thrashed Texas A&M 35-6, dominating from start to finish inside Tiger Stadium to pick up their first SEC win. Head coach Lane Kiffin knew revenge was on the mind of some in his locker room, including defensive coordinator Blake Baker.
"We discussed that in January," Kiffin said. "LSU had played great defense versus passing teams and stuff, and then a running quarterback would give them some problems, and so I thought Blake did a really good job."
Last year, Texas A&M put the dagger in LSU's season and Brian Kelly's tenure, as he was fired after the loss. Baker's defense looked lost against quarterback Marcel Reed, who threw for 202 yards and rushed for 108
yards. Both of his touchdowns through the air were on passes of 15 or more yards, and he also ran for a 41-yard score.
Baker took heat throughout 2025 and the offseason about LSU's inability to defend a dual-threat quarterback effectively. His defense bottled Reed up on Saturday, limiting him to 106 passing yards and -13 rushing yards.
"That's what good coaches do," Kiffin said. "They spend an offseason to game plan for a specific game like this, which helps you down the road because you're going to play more of them like it. [Blake] knows that you put it on tape, that there's a plan to stop it."
