The LSU Tigers got bad news on Sunday, with starting safety Dashawn Spears suffering a season-ending ACL injury against the Ole Miss Rebels, according to Matt Zenitz of CBS Sports.
Spears left the Ole Miss game in the second quarter and did not return. The junior started LSU's first three games of the season, and his absence will cause LSU to shuffle its rotation in the secondary. CJ Jimcoily replaced him on Saturday night.
He finished the year with seven tackles, one sack, one tackle for loss, and one pass breakup. It was his first season as a full-time starter after he played in 26 games with four starts in his first two seasons with LSU.
Spears played in all 13 games last season, making one start. He recorded 29 tackles, 3.0 tackles for loss,
one sack, two pass breakups, and two interceptions. Both of his interceptions came against the Florida Gators, with him returning one for a touchdown and being named the SEC Defensive Player of the Week.
The Denham Springs, Louisiana product also played in 13 games as a freshman in 2024, making the first start of his career. He had 24 tackles and one pass breakup.
