A former LSU football quarterback is projected to start for a Conference USA squad this fall. Rickie Collins, a Baton Rouge native, will likely take the reins for Kennesaw State. Collins signed with LSU as a four-star recruit in 2023 and spent two seasons with the Tigers.
Collins only attempted seven passes in Baton Rouge -- throwing for three yards as a freshman in 2023 and tossing 35 yards in 2024. Collins spent his time at LSU behind Jayden Daniels and Garrett Nussmeier, and there wasn't a path to playing time.
Collins opted to transfer to Syracuse, but lost the QB battle to Steve Angeli. Then Angeli got hurt, thrusting Collins into the starting role. Collins struggled as Syracuse's QB1. He averaged just 5.7 yards per attempt while throwing
10 picks and six touchdowns.
After one year with the Orange, Collins transferred to Kennesaw State. Now with the Owls, Collins is in a stable situation with a clear path to QB1. Kennesaw State head coach Jerry Mack has yet to officially name a starter; all signs point to the former LSU QB being the guy.
Collins is talented and now facing lighter competition in the Sun Belt; he has a chance for a breakout year. Kennesaw State won the conference in 2025 and has some good pieces on offense.
