LSU football blew out Clemson 51-10 on Saturday to begin the 2026 season and the Lane Kiffin era. The Tigers' head coach noticed an area of improvement for his team on offense, despite the lopsided showing.
"We've got to play better at the guard spot if we're going to continue to improve and play really consistent," Kiffin said.
Bo Borderlen and Aliou Bah occupied the starting guard spots against Clemson. Both played well but Kiffin believes they have room to grow, particularly in pass protection. According to Kiffin, quarterback Sam Leavitt bailed the offensive line out a few too many times.
"We got beat a few times on a few things and when you have a really elusive quarterback and you have a really good running back, which we've had that combination
for a while now, that makes up for some things," Kiffin said.
LSU moved the ball well against Clemson. The offensive line looks light-years ahead of where it was last year with the additions of Bah and Jordan Seaton in addition to returners Borderlen, Weston Davis and Braelin Moore. Kiffin believes the group has yet to peak.
"We had over 300 yards rushing," Kiffin said. "We had no sacks, but at the same time, Sam got us out of trouble a couple times so you've got to be careful with that stat and thinking, 'oh, we played great up there' so we did some really good things, but we've got to improve."
