Mikaylah Williams begins her fourth season with LSU women's basketball in a few weeks. The senior guard shared her mindset heading into her final year with her home state school.
"It's extremely important because my whole mission was to let all the little girls in Louisiana know that it's possible to make it to the next level and then that it's possible to stay at one spot and become great," Williams said.
The Bossier City native committed to the Tigers as a McDonald's All-American. She won SEC Freshman of the Year in 2023-24 and developed into a key cog in Mulkey's system. Williams does it all, from handling the ball to making post moves and perimeter shots.
"You're not going to see the Mikaylahs of the world and the Flau'Jaes [Johnson] of the world much
anymore and what I meant by that is staying where they started," Mulkey said.
Williams earned All-American status and first-team SEC honors each of the last two seasons. She averages 15.4 points and 4.9 rebounds per game, with a 48% field goal percentage. With new, young players around her, Williams feels excitement ahead of her final year in purple and gold.
"The feeling of having unfinished business will always be there but going into my senior year, I'm excited," Williams said. "Everybody works extremely hard and just the culture we have and the team chemistry we have is one of the best I've had since I've been here."
