Max Johnson earned the starting quarterback role at Georgia Southern in 2026. It is the fourth school of his college football career, which began in 2020 at LSU. The Tigers' former passer dealt with injuries throughout the years and is playing in his seventh season.
Through three games with the Eagles, Johnson completed 78 passes for 712 yards. He led them to a season-opening win against Charleston Southern but dropped contests against Clemson and Jacksonville State in Weeks 2 and 3. Georgia Southern faces Houston on Saturday, and the team fell out of the US LBM coaches' poll.
In the win against Charleston Southern, Johnson finished with a 71.8% completion percentage. He completed 28 of 39 passes for 281 yards and a touchdown. His longest toss
of the contest was 57 yards, which was a touchdown pass in the first quarter. The southpaw launched the ball downfield as he got hit and connected with Ashton Hollins, who broke a few tackles on his way into the end zone.

Johnson committed to LSU under Ed Orgeron. He started 12 games in 2021, then transferred to Texas A&M. He won the starting role, then an injury forced him to redshirt after four games. In 2023, his second year with the Aggies, he started as the backup, then took over as the starter. Johnson spent his last two seasons at North Carolina, where he continued to deal with injuries.
