LSU football remains in contention for a spot in the College Football Playoffs with a 4-1 record. Head coach Lane Kiffin and the Tigers return to the SEC slate after a Week 5 nonconference win over McNeese. They travel to Kentucky for a Saturday night showdown.
As of Wednesday, LSU football's odds of winning the national championship are +1800, according to FanDuel. That puts LSU No. 8 in the country and No. 4 in the SEC. The three SEC teams with better odds than the Tigers are Georgia, Texas, and Alabama. Alabama's odds were boosted after a strong showing at Mississippi State. Alabama QB Keelon Russell is playing like a superstar.
Ohio State leads the way with the best odds at +420. Georgia is tied with Notre Dame with the second-best odds at +550.
Texas follows with +700 odds. Alabama (+900), Ole Miss (+3000) and Florida (+3500) round out the SEC representation among the top 10.
LSU's title odds equate to a 4.08% chance of winning it all. That's not much, but in a year where it's wide open, that puts the Tigers in the conversation.
The Tigers are attempting to make the College Football Playoffs for the first time since 2019 when they win the national championship. They have yet to qualify for the 12-team field.
