One of college basketball's greatest rivalries is set to be officially renewed Thursday night as the Alabama Crimson Tide and Auburn Tigers collide.
This latest chapter of the "IBOB" rivalry will look a bit different than previous meetings though, as this is not only set to be played on a neutral court, but it will also be a preseason exhibition game. Because of this, the result will not be counted into either team's overall record.
Entering the 2026-27 season, Alabama is ranked as the nation's No. 18 team, according to the USA TODAY Sports Coaches Poll, while Auburn is unranked. Alabama ended last season at 25-10 overall with a Sweet 16 appearance, while Auburn missed the NCAA Tournament at 22-16, but did win the NIT.
This preseason matchup will
also be the third time that Nate Oats and Steven Pearl have faced off as head coaches dating back to last season, with Alabama winning in both of Auburn and Tuscaloosa a year ago, 96-92 and 96-84, respectively. A number of prominent players are back from those matchups last season on both sides such as Amari Allen and Tahaad Pettiford, along with a plethora of newcomers to the rivalry.
