Fox Sports college football analyst Joel Klatt has a new team at No. 1 in his top-10 rankings entering Week 5, as well as a new spot for the Alabama Crimson Tide.
In the new rankings, which Klatt unveiled on his popular video podcast and FS1 show, Alabama rose three spots to No. 6. Kalen DeBoer's team is one spot ahead of the Indiana Hoosiers and one spot below Notre Dame.
The Georgia Bulldogs took over the top spot from the Texas Longhorns in Klatt's rankings after Georgia's 41-13 win over the Oklahoma Sooners at Sanford Stadium in Athens. Texas struggled to hang on for a 20-17 win over the Tennessee Volunteers in a mistake-prone game at Neyland Stadium in Week 4.
"Their offense is becoming scary, scary, scary good," Klatt said of Alabama after
witnessing the Tide's 49-18 thrashing of South Carolina in Week 4 at Bryant-Denny Stadium.
Klatt, the lead analyst and color commentator on Fox's weekly "Big Noon Saturday" games next to play-by-play voice Gus Johnson, added that Alabama has become a better team than last year thanks to the play of quarterback Keelon Russell and his weapons at receiver.
"Keelon Russell? This guy, he's dynamic as a runner, he can throw the football down the field. They've got talent all over on the outside. He's getting better and better. Nearly 400 yards of total offense, five touchdowns for Russell, and Bama is at No. 6."
Russell completed all but six of his passes in the win over South Carolina, finishing 21 of 27. He ran for 35 yards, including a 9-yard touchdown run in the fourth quarter.
The Crimson Tide gained 489 yards of total offense and led 35-3 before halftime thanks to four Russell touchdown passes on four consecutive drives.
