An Alabama football national champion and former two-year starter for the Crimson Tide is being placed on injured reserve.
The Philadelphia Eagles are placing Landon Dickerson, who started 24 games up front for Alabama between 2019-20, on IR. As a result, Dickerson will miss at least the next four games.
Dickerson confirmed the news on his weekly radio show Monday night after a report from The Philadelphia Inquirer earlier in the day. He was a second-round pick (No. 37 overall) out of Alabama in 2021 and has been a starter along the Eagles' offensive line in each of his first five NFL seasons.
USA TODAY Sports' Daniel Dobish said of Dickerson:
"He has reportedly been playing with multiple undisclosed ailments, although he played all 55 offensive
snaps in Week 1 against the Washington Commanders. He had a holding penalty, allowed three pressures, and he gave up one quarterback hit and two hurries."
The Eagles defeated Washington, 24-22. Dickerson revealed on his radio show that he had bone bruising in his right knee as the result of an injury he sustained weeks earlier and that he "shouldn't (have been) out there until I feel healthy."
The 27-year-old Dickerson was a member of Alabama's star-studded 2020 national championship team that featured six first-round NFL draft picks and 10 players drafted overall. Alabama's six players selected in the first round tied the Miami Hurricanes' 2003 team for the most all-time.
The Crimson Tide went 13-0 and defeated the Ohio State Buckeyes, 52-24, on Jan. 11, 2021 in the College Football Playoff national championship game at Hard Rock Stadium in Miami for Alabama's sixth national championship under Nick Saban.
Dickerson suffered a torn ACL in the Tide's 52-46 win over the Florida Gators in the SEC championship game on Dec. 19 but still dressed for Alabama's win over the Buckeyes. He memorably came onto the field for the last snap of the game as quarterback Mac Jones took the final knee.
