Over the last two seasons, an argument could be made that no team has played the Alabama Crimson Tide tougher than the South Carolina Gamecocks.
Led by head coach Shane Beamer, South Carolina has been on the verge of upsetting a Top 10 ranked Crimson Tide team twice, with Alabama eventually winning each game, 27-25 and 29-22, respectively. Both games in Tuscaloosa and Columbia saw Alabama trailing in the fourth quarter, and required late touchdowns to avoid the upset.
This latest matchup between the two is setting up similar as well, as once again, a Top 10 Alabama team will host an unranked South Carolina on Saturday night. Many of the same prominent players are back for both teams as well in this matchup, with some set to face the opposing team for the third
time in their collegiate career's.
Here are five South Carolina Gamecocks to know ahead of the Week 4 SEC showdown in Tuscaloosa.
LaNorris Sellers, Quarterback
Sellers is in his third season as South Carolina's starting quarterback where he has completed 62.8% of passes for 648 yards and a 5:3 TD:INT ratio over three games, as well as rushed for 172 yards and a score on 23 attempts. In two career games against Alabama, the senior has completed 41-of-63 passes for 460 yards, three touchdowns, and two interceptions, while also having rushed for 86 yards and a score on 34 attempts with three fumbles.
Matt Fuller, Running Back
South Carolina's leading rusher, Fuller has racked up 272 yards and three touchdowns on 38 attempts this season, while also having hauled in eight receptions for 93 yards and another score. The junior did not see much success a year ago against Alabama by rushing for only 19 yards on 12 attempts, as well as catching two passes for 13 yards.
Nyck Harbor, Wide Receiver
One of the top athletes on South Carolina's roster, Harbor is tied for the Gamecocks' team-lead with eight catches this season for 127 yards, while also leading the SEC with four kick returns for 77 yards. Over his two career games against Alabama, the senior has three receptions for 94 yards and two touchdowns.
Justin Okoronkwo, Linebacker
A name familiar to the Crimson Tide, the former Alabama linebacker is currently leading South Carolina's defense in tackles with 19 total, along with one TFL, so far this season. Okoronkwo, who played for Alabama in the 2024 game between the two, had five tackles against the Crimson Tide a year ago in Columbia.
Vicari Swain, Defensive Back
Swain, who has four tackles and a sack defensively this season, might just be the most dangerous punt returner in college football, currently leading the nation with two touchdowns on a SEC-best six returns, as well as averaging 25.3 yards per return. The senior has four tackles and a TFL in two career games against Alabama, as well as a pair of punt returns for 17 yards.
