The NFL season is back underway, and once again former Alabama players were all over Week 1 of the NFL season. With 58 former Crimson Tide players on NFL initial 53-man rosters, it was no surprise to see several Alabama players shining over the weekend.
Two former Alabama running backs finished in the top three on the weekend in rushing yards, one of which tied for the most touchdowns scored on the week. A former Alabama defensive back also made arguably the biggest play of the game in the Super Bowl rematch that opened up the NFL season.
While there were standouts across the league that played at Alabama, here are five of the top performances from the opening weekend of the NFL season of former Alabama players.
Bryce Young, Quarterback - Carolina Panthers
Bryce Young had one of the best
week's of any quarterback in the league in Week 1. While the Panthers fell 59-37 to the Bears, that had little to do with Young. The 2021 Heisman Trophy winner threw for 361 yards while completing 62.2% of his passes (23/37). He also ran for 10 yards and scored four total touchdowns (three passing, one rushing). He did throw one interception. Young had the third most passing yards in the NFL in week one.
Derrick Henry, Running Back - Baltimore Ravens
Derrick Henry continued to work his way up the NFL record books in the Ravens' 41-23 Week 1 win over the Colts. Henry rushed for 144 yards on 24 carries (6.0 yards per carry) and scored three rushing touchdowns. He also hauled in one reception for 19 yards.
Jahmyr Gibbs, Running Back - Detroit Lions
In a thrilling 31-30 overtime win for the Lions, Jahmyr Gibbs had one of the best performances of any player on the field. Gibbs ran for 156 yards and two touchdowns, and also had five catches for 30 yards. Gibbs had the second most rushing yards in the league in Week 1.
Jihaad Campbell, Linebacker - Philadelphia Eagles
Jihaad Campbell was all over the field for the Eagles defense in their 24-22 win over the Commanders in Week 1. Campbell had nine tackles and a sack in the game. Of Campbell's nine tackles, four of them were solo stops. Campbell was second on the team in tackles.
Josh Jobe, Cornerback - Seattle Seahawks
Josh Jobe had arguably the most clutch play of the week in the NFL, with a game-sealing interception with the Patriots driving in the final minute of the Seahawks' 13-10 win. On top of the interception, Jobe had six tackles, five of which were solo.
