An Alabama football national champion was among the final roster cuts for NFL teams ahead of Sunday's deadline to trim active rosters to 53 players.
The Chicago Bears are waiving former Crimson Tide offensive lineman Jedrick Wills Jr., CBS Sports' Matt Zenitz reported Sunday.
Wills was the No. 10 overall pick in the 2020 NFL Draft by the Cleveland Browns. He has played in 58 games with 57 starts across five NFL seasons, all with the Browns. His last action came in 2024 when he made four starts before being placed on injured reserve.
The 27-year-old Wills opted for free agency in March 2025 and signed with the Bears the following day. Lingering knee issues caused Wills to sit out last season, and he's played in just 13 games since 2022 due to injuries
after making all 17 starts for the Browns that year.
A Lexington, Kentucky, native that committed to Alabama in 2016 as a five-star offensive tackle, Willis was a freshman on the Crimson Tide's 2017 team that defeated the Georgia Bulldogs, 26-23, in overtime in the College Football Playoff national championship game at Mercedes-Benz Stadium in Atlanta. He saw action in 11 games that year.
In three seasons at Alabama under Nick Saban, Wills started 29 games. He declared for the NFL draft after his junior season in 2019.
