The 2026 NFL preseason has officially come to a close for former Alabama Crimson Tide quarterback Ty Simpson.
Selected in the first round of the 2026 NFL draft, Simpson helped lead the Los Angeles Rams to an undefeated 3-0 record during preseason, seeing time in all three games. The first two came as a backup, while Simpson started for the Rams at quarterback in their preseason finale this past Thursday night, leading Los Angeles to a 20-18 win over the Los Angeles Chargers.
During the win, Simpson impressed once again for the Rams by completing 18-of-23 passes for 119 yards and one touchdown. Simpson, who was later replaced by backup quarterback Matthew Caldwell, also rushed for 10 yards on three attempts, and held a passer rating of 102.7.
This
performance put the finishing touches on what was overall an impressive preseason for Simpson in his first professional action. Over his three games combined, Simpson completed 78.3% of his passes (47-of-60) for 382 yards and a 3:0 TD:INT ratio, while also rushing for 19 yards on seven attempts.
Looking ahead, Simpson is likely to begin the 2026 season third on the Rams depth chart at quarterback behind starter Matthew Stafford and Stetson Bennett IV. Because of this, the former Alabama signal caller is not likely to see a significant amount of playing time in 2026.
Simpson is one-of-six former Alabama quarterbacks who are currently on NFL rosters ahead of the 2026 season. Those include Jalen Hurts (Philadelphia Eagles), Bryce Young (Carolina Panthers), Tua Tagovailoa (Atlanta Falcons), Mac Jones (San Francisco 49ers), and Jalen Milroe (Seattle Seahawks).
