A former Alabama Crimson Tide women's basketball starter has already found a new home in the WNBA after being waived by her former team just two days earlier.
Aaliyah Nye, who was placed on waivers by the Atlanta Dream on Thursday, joined the Los Angeles Sparks Saturday.
Nye was selected 13th overall in the 2025 WNBA Draft by the Las Vegas Aces. She and Sarah Ashlee Barker, who was drafted ninth overall by the Sparks before joining the expansion Portland Fire, helped lead Alabama to consecutive NCAA Tournament appearances in their three seasons together in Tuscaloosa.
Nye appeared in 19 games with the Dream this season and logged 43 minutes total. She scored 14 points and totaled three rebounds with three assists. Nye joins a Sparks team that enters
Sunday 14-25 overall.
While at Alabama, Nye became the program's all-time leader in 3-pointers with 293. She led the SEC in treys with 111 (3.4 per game) in 2024-25, which ranked third overall in the NCAA and set the program record for most 3-pointers in a single season.
Nye also set an Alabama record with nine 3-pointers in a single game during an 84-66 Alabama win over the Florida Gators on Feb. 6, 2025.
Nye started all 67 games during her final two seasons with the Crimson Tide and averaged 15.2 points per game as a senior and 14.1 as a junior.
The Sparks face the Seattle Storm at 4 p.m. CT Sunday from Climate Pledge Arena in Seattle.
