According to Yea Alabama, Alabama Crimson Tide true freshman defensive back Jireh Edwards is set to miss some time due to an injury.
Edwards suffered the upper-body injury during the Crimson Tide's practice Monday, which resulted in the top true freshman undergoing surgery yesterday. Per CBS Sports' Matt Zenitz, there is optimism that Edwards will end up being able to return early in the season.
The true freshman was one of Alabama's highest rated players in their 2026 recruiting class. Edwards was rated a five-star recruit, as well as the No. 33 overall player nationally, per the 247Sports composite rankings.
While not projected as a starter in Week 1, Edwards was still likely expected to play a key role for the Crimson Tide this fall, potentially
playing significant snaps early in the season. Should Edwards miss games, then Dre Kirkpatrick Jr., Ivan Taylor, and Zavier Mincey would be among Alabama's top backup options at safety.
The Crimson Tide's season opener comes Saturday, Sept. 5, at home against East Carolina. Kickoff is set for 11 a.m. CT on ABC.
