The Alabama Crimson Tide are now only days away from officially kicking off the 2026 season in Tuscaloosa against the East Carolina Pirates.
A SEC vs. American showdown, East Carolina is a team Alabama has faced only once before, a 23-22 win during the 1998 season for the Crimson Tide.
This season, East Carolina comes to Tuscaloosa led by head coach Blake Harrell, and are coming off a 2025 season which included a 9-4 overall (7-2 American) record. The Pirates' nine wins were the program's most in a single year since joining the conference back in 2014, and East Carolina is likely expected to be among the American's best yet again in 2026 led by new starting quarterback Mitch Griffis.
As for Alabama, Kalen DeBoer enters his third season as head
coach in Tuscaloosa coming off an 11-4 campaign (7-1 SEC) that resulted in a CFP quarterfinal appearance. The Crimson Tide, similar to East Carolina, also have a new quarterback leading their offense in Keelon Russell, as well as a talented defense led by one of the top secondaries in college football.
