The Alabama Crimson Tide are going up against one of the top-ranked defenses in the country in Week 5 of the 2026 college football season. Kirby Smart's Georgia Bulldogs lead the nation in yards allowed per play with 3.89 and rank eighth overall in total defense through five games.
Alabama (5-0, 3-0 SEC) is No. 6 in the AP Top 25 and No. 7 in the US LBM Coaches Poll; Georgia (5-0, 3-0) is No. 2.
While previewing Saturday's top-10 clash between the Crimson Tide and Bulldogs on the Thursday edition of his popular video podcast and FS1 program, Fox Sports college football analyst Joel Klatt said Georgia would have to "get after" Alabama's electric freshman quarterback, Keelon Russell.
Russell is coming off another big game in Alabama' 56-23 win at
Mississippi State in Week 5. He threw for 285 yards and three touchdowns on 16 of 22 passing. Russell added a 17-yard rushing score.
"(Georgia) can get after it, and you're going to have to get after it because this offense is explosive," Klatt said of Alabama, which entered Week 6 ranked 25th nationally in total yards. "Alabama can play offense, and Keelon Russell can throw the ball down the field. He is excellent. I think NFL evaluators should be salivating for whenever he becomes available for the NFL draft."
That won't happen anytime soon, but Klatt reiterated something he said earlier in the week about the former five-star recruit from the class of 2025.
"He reminds me a lot of the way Michael Penix played at Washington for Kalen DeBoer, and yet he's more mobile and more explosive as a runner," Klatt said of Russell. "It's a deadly combination, and Bama is outstanding on the offensive side."
Georgia loses to Alabama and Keelon Russell if Bulldogs aren't able to do this, Joel Klatt says
"I think Georgia has to put pressure on him," Klatt said Thursday. "If they don't put pressure on Keelon Russell, I think Georgia loses the game. They've got to be able to do that somehow. We've seen teams be able to do that... Last year, Georgia was able to do it to Ty Simpson, in particular the last six quarters that they played in the two meetings. Indiana was able to do it in the Rose Bowl. Teams have been able to do it, and you can slow down those schematics from DeBoer in the passing game.
"I know (Georgia's) offense will be methodical," Klatt added of quarterback Gunner Stockton and the Bulldogs. "They will try to stay on schedule. They will do what they can. They've got a quarterback who plays great in the fourth quarter."
Joel Klatt says potential fallout from Hurricane Isaias is a problem for Alabama against Georgia

Klatt mentioned the threat of heavy rain and winds during Saturday's prime-time matchup at Bryant-Denny Stadium. Both schools and the SEC office are monitoring the latest updates on Hurricane Iasias, which strengthened into a Category 1 hurricane Thursday and will take aim at the Gulf Coast before making landfall Saturday.
Alabama Athletics said in a statement Wednesday:
"At this time, kickoff remains scheduled for 6:30 p.m. CT Saturday. We continue to encourage fans to rely on official Alabama Athletics and SEC channels for the latest information regarding Saturday's game."
Moreover, Alabama announced Thursday that "College GameDay" will move its live broadcast inside Coleman Coliseum rather than the University of Alabama Quad.
Klatt said the potential for heavy rain and wind gusts aren't good for Alabama.
"They've got to throw the football," Klatt said of Alabama's offense. "I don't think they can't get into a phone-booth, grind-it-out running style game with Georgia and win. That plays into Georgia's hand. The worse the weather, the better for Kirby and Georgia. With the weather being what it is, I think that's advantage Georgia.
"Does Bama have an answer if they can't sling it around and in particular get those explosive plays down the field? I don't know if they do. I don't know if they can run the football effectively without the impact of a great passing game."
Will Alabama beat Georgia in Week 6 top-10 showdown? Joel Klatt's final score prediction
Because of the threat from Isaias, Klatt is taking the Bulldogs to win their first game at Bryant-Denny Stadium since 2007.
"I'm going to take Georgia in this one, who I think is the best team in the country. Georgia 27, Alabama 24," Klatt said.
Klatt is 3-0 when picking Alabama games this season. He correctly predicted the Crimson Tide would beat Kentucky in Week 2, Florida State in Week 3, and Mississippi State in Week 5.
