On Saturday afternoon in Tuscaloosa, the Alabama Crimson Tide are set to officially kickoff the 2026 season inside Saban Field at Bryant-Denny Stadium against the East Carolina Pirates.
A matchup we have not seen since 1998, Alabama owns a 1-0 all-time advantage head-to-head against the Pirates. That one victory came in Birmingham during that 1998 season, a 23-22 win for the Crimson Tide.
As for this season, both of Alabama and East Carolina are set to enter the fall projected among the top teams' in the SEC and American Conference, respectively. The Crimson Tide are coming off a CFP quarterfinal appearance under head coach Kalen DeBoer, while the Pirates won the Military Bowl for the second-straight year under Blake Harrell.

Week 1 with new starting quarterbacks in Keelon Russell and Mitch Griffis, as well as multiple others set to enter their first season as a starter at their respective positions.
