A former Alabama Crimson Tide women's basketball guard has been waived by a WNBA team.
Aaliyah Nye was placed on waivers by the Atlanta Dream Thursday. Nye is in her second season in the league after being selected by the Las Vegas Aces with the 13th overall pick in the 2025 WNBA Draft. Nye's Alabama teammate, Sarah Ashlee Barker, was drafted ninth overall by the Los Angeles Sparks that year.
In three years at Alabama from 2022-2025, Nye became the program's all-time career leader in made 3-pointers with 293. After beginning her collegiate career at Illinois, she played in played in 97 games for the Crimson Tide and averaged 14.6 points per game between her junior and senior seasons. She started all 67 games in that span.
Nye totaled 1,260 career
points at Alabama and led the SEC in 3-pointers in 2024-25, ranking fourth overall in the NCAA. The East Lansing, Michigan, native set a program record with nine 3-pointers in a single game during an 84-66 Alabama win over the Florida Gators on Feb. 6.
Nye and Barker helped lead Alabama to a berth in the NCAA Tournament in three consecutive seasons. The Crimson Tide were a No. 5 seed in the 2025 tournament and fell in four overtimes to Maryland, 111-108, in the second round.
This season with the Dream, Nye had appeared in 19 games and logged 43 minutes while scoring 14 points and totaling three rebounds with three assists.
